A NEW MEDIUM

WRITING FOR FILM & TV

While our training began in writing for stage musicals, we have been so fortunate to have the opportunity to explore other mediums such as scoring short films and writing sample material for children's animated TV. We are currently brainstorming an original concept for a musical animated television show, and we can't wait to share more with you as we continue to explore the art form.

Writing for disney and sony

Last year, we were asked to participate in a songwriting challenge through the ASCAP Musical Theatre Festival. We flew to LA and met Disney executive Jay Stutler and Sony executive Joe D'Ambrosia, who led a morning session/talkback, giving advice on the industry and writing for children's animation. At the end of the session, they gave us our prompt.

We were given a brief for a pre-existing show called SuperKitties, centered around four kitten superheroes (their superpower is kindness)! In this episode, there is a villain named Mr. Puppypaws, who has hypnotized the town baker into making only doggy treats, only for him.

the postmaster's office

The songwriting challenge was exciting, but a bit wild. We arrived at the Wallis Theater on Monday morning not knowing what we were going to write. We were guided to the Postmaster's Office (pictured above), where we had four hours to write our new song. By 3PM, we were back in the theatre, where we performed our freshly written song live for the first time.

We got great feedback from Jay and Joe, and we had a blast making the song. This entire experience taught us so much about the differences of writing for the stage and screen, and made us more excited than ever about continuing to exercise this writing muscle.

"Doggy Treats Forever"

Upon returning to NYC, we took Jay and Joe's feedback, connected with an orchestrator, called our good friend and incredible talent Daniel Yearwood (Once On This Island, Hamilton, Sweeney Todd), and we gave "Doggy Treats Forever" all the bells and whistles.

"Ranger Danger"

We also had the privilege of working on a short film in a whirlwind process called "Ranger Danger."

This short film was made and presented as a part of the 48 Hour Film Project in New York City, created by Sol and Yue Productions. We were given less than 24 hours to write, record, and produce a theme song for this campy, funny, and charming short film. The film is about a group of park ranger trainees who run into trouble while learning about the park.

At the 48 Hour Film Project Awards, we won Best Song!
